R Family

Started off the fall season in a good way... a lovely time with the R Family. The morning light was beautiful and there were cool breezes. A big thanks to their friends who let us use their home on the river for their family photos.

You know a photo shoot is a success when you leave with your car full of cat tail fuzz, girls with wet, muddy feet and the need to change clothes. My daughter and my niece are "tweenish" and I was delightfully reminded that these girls are still girls. They played and laughed and I think at times they forgot I was even taking pictures. If you could see the hundred or so photos I took, you would see what I mean. I love these girls and this season of life is so precious. Childhood is quickly fleeting away. This time with them was truly a blessing.

I had an idea... I gathered up my girl and my niece and set off on my mission. Then come to find out, Miss A had an idea, too. She had great ideas, actually. So, we realized her ideas and mine. It was a fun afternoon making memories - we might have to make this a tradition!

One great thing about working in the town I grew up in is that I've had the privilege to get together with some friends from high school. I love seeing their families and reconnecting. And it's so great to have the opportunity to be a part of their special memories and to capture life's moments.

There's nothing more hopeful and cherished than expecting a child... whether it's your first or your third. Many blessings to Jenn and Sean on number three.

Two flowers or one? I like them both... either way it makes me smile.

The tracks remind me of 'Stand By Me'. This was a fun shoot with a mom and her kids... I love the image above with the three balancing on the track. We were able to cover a lot of ground in Auburn - the advantage of a photo shoot with older kids.

This is a good combination, I'm thinking! Montoliva is a local winery (I shot the owners wedding photos when I first got started in my photography business.) I was recently asked to come and shoot at a wine tasting for them. I had a great time and learned a lot about shooting in this type of situation. And a bonus is that they have really great Italian style wines :) Fingers are crossed that we can do a trade again sometime in the future!!

One of my very favorite photo shoot locations... for obvious reasons! And one of my very favorite families, too. These were taken the beginning of December - I was surprised at how much color was left on the trees.

Her husband wanted some "glamour" shots. As we wandered around her property, I casually mentioned it would be fun to have her sit on their jeep. "Let's do it" was the response I got. We uncovered the jeep and got to work. I was worth it. So fun... I love these.

I'm so blessed with the fantastic families I've worked with; this one is no exception. And thank you to my friends (and friends of friends) who have given me referrals. I appreciate your faith in me. Officially starting my business last year, I'm still blown away with the way God has blessed my new venture. It's appropriate (being so close to Thanksgiving) that I am truly thankful.

I'm loving black and white photo's right now. It takes me back to the old days when I would go in the darkroom to develop my photos. The magic of your photo slowly appearing out of thin air. I had the opportunity to shoot these three beautiful sisters, the one on the far left (above) being one of my dearest friends from my MOPS group for several years now. Krissa and her sisters make a very pretty picture, don't you think?

So, back to my story... a photo shoot with my kids (and my mom) was not so easy. There was a lot of goofing off, fake smiles,

dancing/fighting on the tables,

and one little boy that refused to admit that he had to go potty.

Despite that, memories were made and even a few "hallmark" moments ;)

Taking pictures of your own children is a challenge. Here are some of the good... later I will share some of the bad and the ugly (well, so to speak ;)

Grace has seen plenty of leaf photos with the many photo shoots I've been doing lately and she couldn't wait to get in on this action! Little Luke almost blends right in...

Taking a walk with Moo-moo. And if you look really closely you can see Cole running up ahead.

Grace is the easiest to get to cooperate (she should be, at age seven!)

And then there's Luke...

It looks like he's carrying a huge branch when he's really just climbing the tree.

This little guy, Sawyer, was a magnet to my lens at a wedding this summer. And his parents take a nice shot, too! It's funny after you have children you become (for example), Sawyer's mom or Sawyer's dad. For years I was "Grace's mom". Now I have several titles. It's a privilege to have so many titles.
